Open Edition, 2022 - ongoing.
This vase is a replica of a paper pulp urinal I used during
recovery after a surgery to prevent blood clotting in
my arteries. The surgery required a rib to be removed and the surgeon promised to keep the rib for me. Learning that my rib had been destroyed, keeping this urinal became the next best keepsake.
The original urinals hold liquid long enough to sit at the bedside before being gathered by a nurse who
carries it to an industrial composter. The porcelain replica, unglazed on the exterior to carry the rough texture of
the original urinal, holds water indefinitely.
